County Farm Bureau® Minutes of the July 20, 2010 Meeting The regular
monthly meeting of the Henry County Farm Bureau Board of Directors was called
to order by President Kevin Urick at 8:00 p.m. at the home of Rock & Marla
Katschnig. Dave Schmedt gave the invocation prior to the meal. Kevin
Urick led the pledge to the flag. Secretary Pat Martens read the roll call.
Guests present: Tony Marchand, Gold Star FS; Wayne Anderson IAA District
3 Director; Todd VerHeecke, Young Leader Chairman and Steve Weber. Tony
Marchand gave the Gold Star FS report. Wayne Anderson gave the IAA District
report. A motion was made by Dave Schmedt and seconded by Neal Nelson to
approve the minutes as sent out in the meeting notice. Motion carried. Kevin
Urick gave the Treasurer's report. The Treasurer's repot was approved to be placed
on file until audited. Dennis Verbeck gave the Membership report. Chris
Kendall moved and Dave Schmedt seconded the motion to approve the Membership report.
Motion carried. Dennis also discussed the Henry County Fair, noting that 1,038
pork sandwiches were given out to members. The annual Agent/Board of Directors
outing will be Friday, August 6th for Rolle Bolle in Geneseo. Todd VerHeecke
gave the Young Leaders report. Todd noted that Young Leaders sponsored the 4-H
Ag Olympics and Pedal Pull during the Henry County Fair. YLs also attend a Quad
City River Bandits game with Rock Island County Young Farmers. The District 3
Discussion Meet will be held on August 12 at the Farm Bureau office at 7:00 p.m.
Joel Goetz gave the Local Affairs Committee report. Joel noted that his
committee had met with the Legislative Committee and had passed their budget.
The committee will also be distributing the "Code of Country Living"
booklets to all realtors in the county. Dave Westerlund gave the Marketing
Committee report. Dave noted that Randy Edmund and Bryan Johnson will be attending
the Marketers to Washington trip in August. A Women's Marketing program will be
held on August 2nd at Big River Resources in Galva; Cathy Ekstrand will be the
speaker for the program. Dave discussed the joint marketing committee meeting
that was held with Rock Island County. For 2010-2011 there will be two market
outlook meetings held in Moline and the other two meetings will be held in Orion.
Jim Ufkin gave the Legislative Committee report. Jim also informed the
board of the voting records of our Representatives, Senators and Adopted Legislator.
Jan Weber moved and Chris Kendall seconded the motion to send letters of appreciation
to the legislators for their voting records and support of agriculture. Motion
carried. Jim Ufkin and Steve Weber gave the Henry County Zoning report. Jan
Weber gave the Henry County Economic Development report. Katie Boruff
gave the Manager's report. Katie reported that the deadline for apply for a GRITS
team is August 16th. Kevin Urick gave the President's report. Old
Business: The Illinois Farm Bureau Commodities Conference will be held on July
28 at the Marriott Hotel in Normal. New Business: The District 3 Meeting
will be held on August 9 at 6:30 p.m. at the Kenny and Marilyn Bush Farm, near
Milan. Illinois Farm Bureau will hold Regional Farm Talk meetings on September
1st in Monmouth and Ottawa. Correspondence: Thank yous were received
from the Galva, Colona and Geneseo Food Pantries for the recent donation of ground
beef. A motion was made and seconded to adjourn the meeting. Motion carried.
